As for her TV series career, she appeared in two more shows: Hip Hop Squares (2012) and Scared Famous (2017). Jakeita now also owns a clothing boutique called Her Little Secret, located in Miami, Florida. Jakeita was very convincing in her new role, quickly gained acceptance of the audience.īecoming a TV personality, Jakeita was invited to host various events, such as “Slay Day All White Yacht Boat Party” in New York, “Mocha Fest” in Negril, Jamaica, and “Vivid Saturdays” (LGBT parties) at Providence Rhode Island.
By the end of the fifth season of the show the producers decided to make Jakeita a manager of a new tattoo salon Black Ink: Atlanta, making additional episodes about the new shop. She charmed the audience with her honest emotional reactions which she never hid, her passionate attitude to the tattoo business and her extravagant looks. Jakeita appeared in the series only in the second season, but very soon became a major personality of the show though she wasn’t even a tattoo artist.
However, fame found Jakeita since Black Ink Crew signed a contract with VH1 channel in 2013, and started to film a TV show about the life of the tattoo salon. She also tried to become an actress and a make-up artist at Bella Honey Cosmetics in New York, to better understand which fields of activities she could benefit from. Jakeita started her career in the position of a receptionist at a tattoo shop and studio called Black Ink Crew. As for her later education, she attended Empire Beauty School at Pottsville. There’s no information about her college education, but most likely she didn’t obtain any degree, diving right into hard work to earn money and to help her mother to survive their family financial struggles. Jakeita attended a local high school in Harlem, though she had to take a year off twice to give birth to her sons, so it wasn’t easy for her to matriculate from her school. She didn’t want to put her sons’ faces on social media or TV before they turned 18, and now some people criticize Jakeita for giving-up her kids, and belated efforts to connect with them when they are already adults. When they both turned 18, Jakeita decided to reunite with them, getting in touch with Genesis and Dessalines, but, as she shared in one of her interviews to Refinery29, it was not smooth and easy. Her sons were adopted by different families and spend their life not knowing much about their biological mother.
Jakeita tried to raise them with the help and support of her mother, who suffers from bipolar disorder, but women soon understood they didn’t have enough hands and money to take good care of the boys, so Jakeita’s mother suggested giving the toddlers up for adoption, and an exhausted Jakeita agreed. She gave birth to her first son, Genesis, when she was only 14 years old, and her second son, Dessalines, was born when she was 16. Being a teenager, Jakeita fell in love with a guy from her neighborhood and got pregnant twice. Jakeita has very warm relationship with her mother, since she supported her in hard times. She recently shared her thoughts on self-esteem and advised Jakeita’s followers to love themselves as she thought it was the only way to be happy. Her mother’s name is unknown, though she sometimes appears in Jakieta’s Instagram videos to say something to the world.
